The Lapp family has been in the food business for more than 80 years. Originating in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, patriarch Henry S. Lapp supplemented his meager farm income during the depression years by selling fresh meat and produce at a nearby farmers market in Coatesville, PA.

In the 1960's two of his sons bought out the then retiring senior Lapp's market and grew from one market stand to three markets.

Then in 1972 Dan and Anna Ruth with their four children moved to Salem County and in 1983 began their own family market business in Penns Grove. Opening their first Salem County market at the old Melita's farm stand and five years later expanded by moving into the current building.
In 2011, Dan and Anna Ruth with their four children, who are shareholders of Lapp's Dutch Market Inc., bought what has long been known as the Olympia Dairy Bar on Route 40 in Carneys Point Township as well. More recently in 2014, the store in Penns Grove, NJ was given a new face lift with a beautiful inside remodeled.
